Dr. Paulson is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Biochemistry and the Molecular Oncology Research Institute. He received his PhD in 1986 from the University of California at Davis and performed his postdoctoral training with Dr. James E. Darnell at The Rockefeller University. Current work in the lab is focused on molecular mechanisms of cell cycle inhibition and tumor suppression. Our previous work had shown that reactive oxygen species (ROS) function as signaling molecules for a number of cellular signaling pathways, including the ERK and p38 MAP kinase pathways. Recent work has shown that the transcriptional regulator and growth suppressor HBP1 is a new target for ROS signaling in growth control, and that HBP1 mutations are implicated in human breast cancer pathogenesis.
