The Paulson Laboratory is working on molecular mechanisms of cell cycle inhibition and tumor suppression. In particular, we have focused on the mechanisms of the transcriptional repressor and potential tumor suppressor HBP1. HBP1 is a documented G1 inhibitor in both cell culture and animal models. HBP1 represses a number of growth regulatory genes (e.g. N-Myc, c-Myc, and Cyclin D1). Finally, important work from the Yee lab has demonstrated that HBP1 is an inhibitor of the Wnt signaling pathway, which is involved in many cancer types.
